As a casual #Minecraft player (when all the chores are finally done), I’d love to know how many billions of dollars have been generated by this amazing game. In addition to Microsoft’s game sales, Realms hosting, merchandising, and marketplace, consider all the developers, designers, artists, YouTubers, streamers, hosting providers, and server operators benefitting from the brand. The Java version’s mod, skin, and shader creators primarily provide their work for free, so I assume/hope they’ve been justly rewarded with internet ad revenue and donations.

Although it’s been reported that over 173.5 million people were playing Minecraft in January 2023, the game as an industry is what fascinates me and the total revenue is undoubtedly impossible to calculate. I’m certain, however, it was the best $26.95 I’ve ever spent.
